Day Treatment Centre (DTC): Monash Medical Centre, Clayton
The Day Treatment Centre at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton is a multipurpose day facility, designed to facilitate the provision of a new flexible model of care that meets the changing clinical needs of patients in a tertiary hospital environment. The new models of care are associated with the development of an allied system and clinical practice changes to streamline patient care and enhance the effective and efficient use of resources. This strategy is to assist in developing an increased bed capacity for MMC Clayton to meet increases in emergency demand and improved access to elective surgery.
Many of our clients do not need to occupy a multi-day bed. What we
do offer are services for a wide range of patients i.e. Day Surgery
Adult and Paediatric Admission (DOSA), same day procedure Medical/Surgical
patients, Day Infusion/Transfusion, ED patients (Waiting Ward Bed) SSWAB
patients, Hospital in Home patients that need antibiotics, vascular
angiograms and post cardiac intervention patients (same day procedure).
Monthly throughput: 650-780 patients.
Medical Procedure Unit (MPU): Dandenong Hospital
There is a combination of medical and surgical patients awaiting beds in the MPU. These include patients requiring intravenous infusion such blood products, iron, Fabrazyme and antibiotics, along with patients requiring minor invasive procedures such as abdominal paracentesis, bone marrow biopsy and venesection. Patients for day surgical procedures such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, plastics, orthopaedics, vascular and gynaecology also attend this unit. The MPU will provide chemotherapy service in the near future.
2 permanent full time Division1 Registered Nurses (RN) provide the nursing support, which is supplemented with a further Division 1 nurse depending on the workload and type of procedures on the day.
