supervision for psychiatric nurses at Southern Health"Our Team is
committed to excellence in nursing skills, knowledge and attitudes. We
aim to expand the level of competence of our nursing staff, and continue
to develop consumer sensitive practice in our workforce.
This is achieved by:
- Working in partnership with nurses, nurse unit managers,
consumers and carers, to develop activities based on nursing
standards at the national, state and local levels.
- Creating and maintaining a learning environment, guided by the
principals of adult learning.
- Facilitating research on best practice in mental health nursing,
whilst maintaining continuous quality systems.

- To improve Southern
Health standards of Mental Health Nursing and increase opportunities
within the workplace.
- Clinical support
for nursing staff.
- Formal and informal
professional development.
- To facilitate the
provision of group and individual clinical supervision.
- Coordinate the
Mental Health Graduate Nurse Program.
- Supervised re-entry
program for nurses who are returning to Mental Health Nursing.
- Continuous quality
improvement in line with the National Mental Health Standards.
- Conduct research
and quality projects in mental health.
- To facilitate
evidence based practice.
- To support the
dissemination of nursing research findings.
- To support the
training and learning experiences of undergraduate nursing students.
- Supervising /
supporting nurses who are studying post graduate qualifications in
mental health nursing.
- Development and
training of nursing education.
