Graduate Midwife Program

Your Invitation

Southern Health offers you the chance to consolidate and develop your skills as a midwife within the supported environment of the Graduate Midwives Program.

This program accepts participants in February and August (depending on demand.)

“If you are a graduate midwife from direct entry, double degree or post-graduate studies, we invite you to consider our program as the perfect way to launch your new career.”

Overview

The Graduate Midwife Program at Southern Health commenced in 2006, placing graduates at one of three sites conducting maternity services;

  • Monash Medical Centre, Clayton

  • Dandenong Hospital in Dandenong

  • Casey Hospital in Berwick.

Rotations are organised in Birthing, Post and Antenatal clinical areas with the focus being on consolidation of the essential art of Midwifery care.

Double Degree graduates wishing to consolidate Nursing skills have an additional rotation to either Newborn Services or a Medical or Surgical area.

Supernumary time in each area, support from dedicated education staff, preceptors and mentors means our graduates always have someone they can seek out for assistance.

Regular and paid education time furthers knowledge and skill.
From a solid and stable base, our graduates move confidently into ongoing and more advanced midwifery practice. and can choose from a variety of services within maternity care, from tertiary level to low-risk Midwifery led models.
