With probably the most diverse population mix of all the Southern Health hospitals, Dandenong's Emergency Department reflects a similar diversity in its staff profile.

Dandenong Hospital's Emergency Department operates under the direction of Dr Mary Buchanan with the newly appointed Professor of Emergency Medicine for Southern Health also located at the Dandenong ED.

The Dandenong Emergency Department staff exemplify good team work and team spirit with commitment to excellence in patient care.

One of the Emergency Department's features which separates Dandenong Emergency Department from others within the Southern Health group is the involvement of volunteers as a key element in the day to day running of the Department. Long standing volunteers provide services that range from administrative support to patient support freeing up the medical professionals to focus on their challenging roles. The volunteers are regarded as a very important part of the service team.

With probably the most diverse population mix of all the Southern Health hospitals, Dandenong's Emergency Department reflects a similar diversity in its staff profile.

Staff are encouraged through regular surveys to provide feedback and suggestions to help shape their workplace and the most recent outcome of this formal evaluation process highlighted that Dandenong staff regard their workplace as family-friendly, flexible and caring.

Dandenong Emergency Physicians provide a very successful education program for trainees for first part Fellowship exams and support the education program at Monash Medical Centre for second part exams.
