Specialty Program - Cardiology
With cardiovascular disease still the biggest killer of Australians, the success of Cardiology is vital for the community that Southern Health services.
We currently care for around 4,000 inpatients annually with many more inpatients being cared for on a day basis.
Services include:
- Surgery (Cardiac and Thoracic)
- Cardiac Care Units
- Post Surgical Wards
- Pre-admission Clinics
- Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs
- Hospital in the Home
- Full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including Coronary Angioplasty
- Chest Pain Evaluation area (joint pilot program with Emergency Department)
At present services are offered at Monash Medical Centre and Dandenong
Hospital.
As a tertiary referral service, patients are also seen from the Mornington Peninsula, Gippsland and Tasmania.
Respiratory medicine is also a significant component of the Program. New developments include a Sleep Study Centre that provides investigative services for sleep disorders as well as a Pulmonary Function Laboratory. There has also been a recent expansion of the Cystic Fibrosis Services.
We have a wide range of research activities, as well as an extensive education commitment. There are also a number of publications available through the office.
