Children’s Ward: Dandenong Hospital
The Children’s Ward at Dandenong Hospital is an acute paediatric
unit caring for children from 0 – 19 years of age. We provide
for a wide range of medical, surgical, orthopaedic and plastic surgery
patients. We admit mainly via the Emergency Department and also some
elective admissions. The nature of most illnesses is relatively short
stay but we do also care for children with more complex needs.
41 North - Paediatric Medical: Monash Medical Centre Clayton
41 North is a busy modern paediatric medical unit covering a diverse
range of medical conditions, such as respiratory, renal, neurology,
rheumatology, endocrine, cardiology, oncology, haematology, gastroenterology,
dermatology and infectious diseases. Patients on our unit are aged between
0-13 years, and are admitted to the unit either by elective or emergency
admissions. 41 North aims to deliver family centred care which is deemed
integral to the needs of the patient. Parents and carers are empowered
to participate in the care of their child.
We value teamwork, open communication, quality improvement and ongoing
education to provide optimal care and service to our patients. At the
same time we ensure that our nursing care adheres to the network’s
safe practice standards and that the environment is supportive to both
staff and patients. We have 5 four bed rooms and 8 single rooms
for general isolation/reverse isolation patients. 2 of those can be
changed to negative pressure rooms if required.
42 North - Paediatric Surgical: Monash Medical Centre Clayton
42 North is an acute paediatric ward specialising in all types of surgery,
adolescent health and
includes a renal service incorporating haemodialysis, peritoneal
dialysis and transplantation. We treat approximately 2800 children annually. During
the summer months 6 of our beds form a paediatric day treatment unit
allowing an efficient turnover of patients requiring a short stay for
day surgery. During the winter months all 26 beds are open 24 hours
a day.
We embrace the concept of family centred care encouraging parents to be involved in their child’s care whilst in hospital. Our patients are able to enjoy the excellent services provided by play therapy, music therapy and the visiting teacher and have the added advantage of an arts therapy room and a starlight express room both located within the ward. We work closely with the paediatric diabetes ambulatory care unit, the adolescent psychiatric unit, Care Link, Hospital in the Home and RDNS ensuring that a high level of care is provided. Our team of professionals remain happy and focused enjoying a relaxed friendly environment whilst also having the advantage of a diverse social calendar enjoyed by many of the ward staff.
