South East Alcohol and Drug Services
Community Residential Drug Withdrawal Unit

The South East Alcohol and Drug Services (SEADS) Community Residential Drug Withdrawal Unit (CRDWU) is an important component of the range of services offered by SEADS to clients who believe that they have an alcohol or drug problem.   It is a 12 bed in-patient alcohol and drug withdrawal unit providing a 6 day medically supported withdrawal service for adult clients from the Southern Region.  Our service is delivery is based on the Unit Philosophy which states that we believe that:
Any person can develop problems from the use of alcohol and other drugs – regardless of differences of race, gender, religion and social and individual circumstance
In the pursuit of help for these problems people are entitled to confidentiality, a safe and supportive environment and equal access to treatment;
Alcohol and other drug problems involve the many aspects of a person’s life – such as the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and social.  Our treatment program is therefore holistic in approach to best benefit each client;
Effective treatment is based on the individual’s decision to choose change and growth, and that the benefits of the resulting new behaviours and ideas are sustained by on-going learning, adaptation, communication and integration into their chosen lifestyle.

The Unit is a stand alone building within minutes from the Dandenong Hospital, however we offer a service that articulates with the other SEADS services eg we admit clients referred from the Hospital Liaison team, the counselling team and the outpatient and home based withdrawal services.  Our discharge planning links our clients back into those services and also refers them to the Primary Care Clinic, Outreach services, the Youth Team, Family Alliance counselling services, other Southern Health services and external treatment providers.
